I've been hired by a private after school academy to teach English to kids ages 6 to whatever. Bringing native English speakers into schools is a popular practice in East Asia right now. I'm not exactly sure why, I was told that encourages good pronunciation.
They specifically want people who don't speak the native language in order to force the students to speak in English if they have a question.
I've never taught before. I took the job because, after getting a Bachelors degree and being completely unable to find anything better than retail jobs, I took the leap into this to pay off my student loans and get a good mark on my resumé.
Overall this has probably been the best decision I've ever made. You know that scene in Empire Strikes Back where Luke walks into the care and has to face the harsh reality of his inner demons? Yeah, it's like that. Only I have to stay in that cave for a year.
It's done wonders for everything in my life - a real bootcamp for the soul. I'd suggest it to anyone who is lost and has no idea what to do with their futures.
